Joy Miura Koerte is a fifth generation Kaua`i resident. Koerte graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pepperdine University with a bachelor's degree in public relations and an emphasis in business. She has worked in both in-house and agency public relations including Kaua`i Electric and Brown & Dutch PR.  Koerte also worked for the Job Training Program Act's Summer Youth Program at Kaua`i Community College and had her own public relations firm, Joy K. Miura Public Relations, which served clients such as Kaua`i Power Partners and the Kapa`a Business Association.

Koerte is a past Board Chair of Kaua`i Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors. She serves on the Hawai`i Community Foundation’s Kaua`i Leadership Council, Kaua`i Chamber of Commerce Events and Activities Committee, Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kaua`i Community College's Spring Gourmet Gala Planning Committee, Lihue Christian Church Board of Trustees, and the Hawaiian Island Land Trust’s Kaua`i Advisory Board.
